Frequently
Asked Parent/Student Questions with Answers:
Q:
What time does my child need to arrive at school?
A:
Students are allowed in the building at 7:30 for breakfast or to sit quietly in
the gym until school starts at 7:50am. Students need to be in the classroom by
8:00 am to be counted present and on time.
Q: Am
I allowed to walk my child to the classroom?
A: Walking your child to the classroom for the first
day is fine. It is a disruption to the schedule if parents continue to do so
after the first day. The students become familiar with their routine very
quickly and we are the closest classrooms to the front door. Thanks for
understanding!
Q: Do
you have snack each day?
A:
Yes, we encourage every child to bring a healthy snack to school. Our snack
time is about 10 minutes long so we ask that it be a quick snack that students
are able to open themselves.
Q:
What time do you eat lunch? Are parents welcome to eat lunch with their
children?
A: We
eat lunch most days at 12:20-12:50. Lunch can be brought from home or purchased
from the school cafeteria. We would LOVE parents to come and eat lunch with
their children. It is a great time for you and your child. We do ask that
parents only sit with their children when they come and not invite other
students to sit in the booths as well. Don’t forget to sign in at the front
office!
Q: Will my child have physical education?
A: We will play outdoors as much as possible for daily
fitness. Also, about once a week students will go to the gym and have P.E. with
our P.E. teacher. Please send in a pair of lace up/Velcro sneakers on P.E.
days. You may also consider sending a pair of shoes daily in their backpack.
Q: What time is dismissal?
A: Dismissal time is 2:45pm. Bus rider students will
load onto their buses and head home. Car riders will be taken to the front of
the school to await their parent or guardian to pick them up through the
carpool lane. Remember unless the person picking your child up is on the list
of approved adults, your child will not be allowed to leave with them. Please
keep your classroom teacher updated with any and all transportation changes.
Q: Can I send in a treat for my child’s birthday, or
to celebrate a summer birthday?
A: YES! We love a party in Kindergarten. Please send
in a store bought snack or join us at lunchtime to celebrate!
Q: How
can I keep up with what is going on in the classroom?
A: There
are several ways:
·
One is the weekly newsletter that comes home in
the Friday folder most weeks.
·
Secondly by subscribing to receive text
messages from me. You do this by sending a text to (704) 322-3154. The text
should only say @mrsefird. then you will receive updates and reminders
automatically.
·
Lastly, email or call me. I am really attached
to my iphone and I return email and text pretty quickly.
Q:
Will my child share their school supplies?
A:
Yes. In our classroom we put the supplies in totes and use them communally. We
will replenish our supplies throughout the year.
Q: Is
there anything I can purchase for the classroom?
A: We
are always in low supply on the following items;
·
color-copy paper
·
card stock
·
Kleenex
·
white-copy paper
·
inexpensive prizes for the treasure box
·
extra snacks (i.e. box of goldfish, or cereal)
Q:
When will nightly homework start?
A:
Students will begin having nightly reading on October 7th. A book
will come home with your child. Please sign their reading log after you read
with them. This will go a long way to help them practice the skills we are
teaching in the classroom.
Q: Can
I go on field trips with my child?
A:
Absolutely! We welcome parents, and grandparents on most of our trips! We will
let families know in advance which trips can accommodate parents.
